What is Radon? Radon is a naturally
occurring radioactive gas that results from the decay of uranium found in trace amounts in soil, rock and water. Radon is
the main source of our exposure to all radiation. In fact, 55% of all radiation to which we are exposed comes from radon gas.
Outdoor radon is not a threat. However radon gas can enter into homes or other buildings and can accumulate to dangerous levels.
Because we spend so much time indoors, exposure to such levels of radon over a long time can pose a serious health risk.
THE US SURGEON GENERAL AND THE US ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY HAVE DETERMINED RADON IS SECOND ONLY
TO SMOKING AS A LEADING CAUSE OF LUNG CANCER
You cannot see, smell or taste radon. The only way to know
is to test. Any home can have a radon problem—new homes or old homes—well insulated homes or drafty homes—homes
with or without basements.
THE US EPA RECOMMENDS THAT YOU FIX YOUR HOME IF THE INDOOR RADON LEVEL IS 4.0
pCi/L OR HIGHER
How do we test for Radon? Hogan Whiting Associates utilizes Rad-Elec
E-Perm® test devices in order to provide the most accurate and reliable testing available. By using E-Perm® test devices,
Hogan-Whiting Associates will be able to provide test results within hours of the time the devices are picked up, in many
cases the results can be determined at the test site. This will save days off the typical charcoal canister test.
E-PERM ® System Facts
- Rad Elec E-PERM®s are the most popular of all the radon detectors submitted to the US EPA for its Radon
Proficiency Program. They’re also the most accurate. Since 1991 more than 90% of the E-PERM®s submitted have “passed”
the EPA’s performance test—even more than continuous radon monitors.
- Rad Elec E-PERM®s are true integrating devices that can measure fluctuating radon concentrations
regardless of extreme temperatures or humidity.
- Rad
Elec E-PERM®s can provide both short and long term radon tests.
- The US Post Office, US EPA and several branches of the US Armed Forces have chosen Rad Elec
E-PERM®s for surveys of public properties in the US and overseas.
